HUNTINGTON NY, Monday, April 22, 2024 - In an ongoing effort to attract the film and TV production industry to Huntington, Long Island, Town Supervisor Ed Smyth, has announced the introduction of the Made In Huntington Film & TV Festival to be presented
November 7 - 10, 2024.
The Festival is open to film and TV professionals and amateurs alike, who are invited to submit short-form and feature-length content for consideration in one of 25 different and unique awards categories, including narrative, animation, corporate brand marketing, talk, sports content, local interest, and more. Submissions may be made in either of two tracks.
The first track is for short programs of 40 minutes or less which are made in Huntington itself, or include a story line that refers to people, places, or diverse cultures within Huntington. The second track is for short and feature length content that is created elsewhere beyond Huntington but reflects a message that is relatable to the broad and diverse communities within the town. Non-English language content is welcomed but requires English subtitles to be considered by the festival’s jury of experienced judges from content creation, distribution, and networks. The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2024, via the festival website at www.madeinhuntington.com
The two objectives of the Festival are: to provide content creators with a unique platform for showcasing their work in the New York metro area, and to invite the film and TV production industry, worldwide, to consider Huntington as a base for their future productions. “Huntington is a convenient choice for producers since we are only a one-hour drive from the major soundstages in Queens and New York City, plus Huntington reflects every kind of environment and architecture for location shoots,” said Supervisor Smyth. He continued, “We have had many productions here from major motion pictures and leading series for streaming platforms, to hit reality TV shows, star-studded music videos, popular TV commercials, video podcasts, daily newscasts, and countless student films.”
Supervisor Smyth is honorary chairperson of a planning committee consisting of nearly 50 Long Island business and community leaders. The committee has been organized to assist in generating local support for the Festival and for co-promoting the Festival’s many scheduled events. The Festival features screenings throughout each of its four days, plus nightly receptions, daily seminars, talks with filmmakers, talent, producers and industry executives, and several special events including an outdoor food and music festival that is free and open to the public.
To showcase all of Huntington, the events will take place at various venues within multiple different communities throughout the Town. For example, screenings are to be shown at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, while seminars are hosted at select local libraries. The talks with filmmakers are scheduled at venues like the Twisted Cow Distillery in East Northport. The nightly receptions are at various restaurants and entertainment venues including the Paramount in downtown Huntington village. In addition, guided tours of the parcel designated for the proposed Studios at Huntington Station project will be available for visiting TV and Film studio executives.
The Festival is funded in part by the Town’s Cultural Affairs Institute, a 501c3 corporation, as well as through 25 exclusive sponsorships, submission fees, and ticket sales. The Festival is produced by the Town’s Office of Film & Television. Learn more at www.huntingtonny.gov
Joe Schramm, the Town’s Director of Film & Television, is the Festival’s executive producer. He concluded by saying, “We hope this event will help filmmakers and TV producers from around the world or around the corner to recognize the amazing opportunities that Huntington has to offer them to showcase their work, to provide unique locations for shoots, and for establishing permanent production facilities that are close to New York.” ###
